Medicine is a collective creation. The most important part is having great teachers. It is a great fortune to have learned from many of them. An even greater joy is working with people whose work is also their hobby.
I was born on August 31, 1953, at the Tallinn Republican Hospital (ITKH). My father dedicated half a century of his life to this hospital. During my school years, I worked in various positions at the same hospital. After graduating from secondary school, there was only one clear path for me – medicine. Thanks to my father's material and moral support, this dream became a reality. For nearly half a century, my wife has been a steady pillar of support. Together, we have raised three children.
Continuous professional development in the field of oncology and related disciplines, including healthcare economics and management.

Since April 2025, I have also been working at AS Medicum, Central Branch, under the leadership of Tõnis Allik.
1993 - ...
In parallel with working in two major hospitals, I have also worked for over 31 years—since its founding—at the private hospital FERTILITAS.
1998 - 2007
1993 - 1998
1979 - 1993
From surgery of the auricle and ear canal to middle ear procedures aimed at restoring hearing. I have been continuously performing otosclerosis and tympanic cavity surgeries since 1985. These skills were acquired during a two-year training period in Leningrad.
I received excellent training in Leningrad under Dr. Aleksei Usanov, who specialized in sphenoid sinus pathology. This experience enabled me, between 1998 and 2007 at the North Estonia Medical Centre (PERH), to perform transnasal pituitary tumor removals through the sphenoid sinus, alongside Dr. Andres Ellamaa, Dr. Rein Viilu, and Dr. Mihkel Leiner. This developed technique was significantly less traumatic for patients compared to transcranial approaches. The same team also performed surgeries on acoustic nerve tumors. At Tallinn Children’s Hospital, we operated on newborns and children with developmental anomalies and head tumors, with assistance from ophthalmic surgeon Dr. Artur Klet, when needed.
Surgeries correcting congenital and acquired deformities, tumors, and inflammatory conditions of the external nose, nasal cavity, and sinuses continue to be performed weekly. Equipment in use includes endoscopes, micro-drills and saws, shavers, and CELON technology.
The most common procedures in this area include tonsillectomies and adenoid removals.
The first of such operations using lasers were performed in 1984 in Leningrad, together with Prof. Mart Kull and Prof. Marius Pluzhnikov.
During my oncology studies, I acquired vascular surgical techniques with Dr. Jaanus Pikan and thyroid surgery skills with Dr. Arvo Ulla. I owe the practical refinement of these techniques to my good friend, outstanding mentor, and brilliant surgeon Dr. Niels Conradt Haug, with whom I operated from 1992 to 1998 on thyroid, neck, and other complex surgical pathologies.
